Degree Requirements

The M.A. in English with a concentration in English Education requires 36 hours of advanced study in English and Education. These courses include English/Education 6274—Contexts and Issues in the Teaching of English—which the candidate takes early on in the program. This course helps the candidate pursue questions that might develop into a master’s thesis or project. Toward the end of the program, the candidate is required to take English/Education 6674—Applied Research Methods in the Teaching of English. This course helps the candidate launch the required masters thesis or project. The masters thesis is 6 hours of independent research (English/Education 6974); the project is 3 hours. Included as part of the program of study is 12 hours of content specialization in English and 12 hours of professional education including MDSK 6260 Principles of Teacher Leadership.
