Charlotte Weekly

Charlotte Weekly is a community newspaper that publishes a 48- to 60-page issue each week. We have a circulation of 45,000, from the University City area down through Charlotte to Pineville, Ballantyne, Stonecrest, Piper Glen and Matthews. Our intern program is an unpaid program but the experience is valuable; we've had interns do movie reviews, arts reviews, editorials, features, profiles, calendars and cover stories in the past. The time commitment is 6-15 hours per week, dependent upon the student's interest and availability and the school's internship requirements. Interns generally have two weekly responsibilities – updating our community calendar of events each week and doing a “Street Beat,” which is a man-on-the-street kind of Q-and-A. Those tasks total approximately 6 or 8 hours, so interns have the opportunity to step beyond those responsibilities as their availability and interests warrant.
