Bryn Chancellor and Allison Hutchcraft, faculty members in the English Department's Creative Writing program, were awarded 2018 Fellowships from the North Carolina Council for the Arts.
Chancellor is the author of the novel Sycamore, which was recently published to great acclaim. “Fiction lets us as readers slow down," she explains, " and reflect on the worlds around us, contemplate our lives in relation to others.” The figures we meet in fiction, she continues, are meaningful "because they show us another shining, complex aspect of the human condition.” See the NCArts Council site.
Hutchcraft’s poems have appeared in the Kenyon Review, Crazyhorse, The Cincinnati Review, Barrow Street, the Beloit Poetry Journal, American Letters & Commentary, West Branch, and other journals. "Poems," Hutchcraft explains, "are acts of heightened attention, of being awake to the world.” “In my writing and in my teaching," she continues, "I strive to foster such engagement,
which I believe enriches our writing and our lives." See the NC Arts Council site.
