In June 2009, the Children's Literature Association Conference will return to Charlotte, North Carolina. The conference will take place in downtown Charlotte, in the shadow of the beautiful Bank of America building. This will be the third Charlotte conference-the first took place in 1984 and the second in 1996.
In the world of children's literature, the number three has special connotations. The third pig has the best house, the third wish is the best wish, and the third bear always has the best stuff. Thus, the theme for the 2009 conference is "The Best of Three."
Conference participants will be able to take advantage of the resources and amenities located in downtown Charlotte. Much of the conference will take place in UNC Charlotte's Uptown Campus. Participants will also attend events at Imaginon, which is a one-of-a-kind facility housing both the Children's Theatre of Charlotte and the main children's library of the Charlotte Public Library. There are dozens of restaurants, bars, museums and other gathering places in downtown Charlotte, so conference attendees will have many options for meals and socializing.
